These handmade afghans, commonly referred to as the ever growing afghan, are created using a custom stitch (created thoroughly by accident and lack of memory from my childhood).  Although it is crochet, the stitch is more simuilar to a cable stitch in knitting.  This special stitch allows the afghan to be very soft and subtle, maintain it's durability while also stretching and growing through use.  These afghans are machine wash and dry.  As an example of their durability, I have many original afghans (years old) that are used daily, even my 3 english bulldogs cuddle up with them, and they have yet to be damaged.  So you can be assured that these afghans should survive years of use and become family heirlooms.

Please note that although I do have dogs in my household, I take every precaution to keep new afghans free from hair and dander.  Of course, this does not ensure that someone allergic will not react.  So, please wash first if buying for someone with dog allergies.
